I'm so embarassed that I don't know how to set a table. No matter how many times someone teaches me, I always forget which side everything goes on. I blame it on the fact that I'm left handed, and it doesn't make sense to put the glass on the right. Hopefully now that I'm blogging about it, I will always remember.
The only time I see a table set like this is on a Cruise. The places we frequent (anything with a playground so the kids can run wild) I wouldn't clasify as "fine dining." :)
ReplyDeleteI don't set a table like this either! I was just having people over and couldn't remember which side the napkin, fork, knive, and glass went on. My table was the basic version of this one, but I still wanted to do it right!
ReplyDeletefour letter words go together and five letter words go together- knife, spoon, glass, right. fork, left. My mom taught me this.

thanks heather--that's good to know. I'll tell everyone I know!
ReplyDeleteHere's another trick: Make two "okay" signs with your hands. Your left hand is a "b" for bread plate and the right hand is a "d" for drink. This has helped me avoid stealing bread plates and water glasses at several round dinner tables!
ReplyDeletei barely remember where the silverware go on each side because we don't really have a table and never set it. but growing up my mom taught me that the knife was 'protecting' the lady spoon. i always think of that
ReplyDeleteps i like your blog. i'm jordan's sister in law
ReplyDeleteI think this is needlessly complicated, why does one need so many cutlery and plates at a dinner table? Must be a lot of washing-up to do afterwards :P
