essay

i read the following article in Real Simple magazine the other day. loved it. I'm interested to read more from the author Kristen van Ogtrop's book Just Let Me Lie Down, out this month.

When you are very young, you have all the time in the world, which is unfortunate, because the hours move by slowly and you are perpetually bored. Everyone around you is an idiot, which makes the long days even longer. All the adults you know complain about not having enough time to anything done, and you know that if they were just a bit more creative in their thinking or at the very least understood how to program the VCR, they would find that they had a lot more time than they thought. And you keep wondering: Dear God, when is life ever going to start?

The article then changed gears a bit and focused more on making time for friends, something I struggle with. I completely related to her when she wrote:

I frequently have to choose between making time for a friend and making time for me. Usually I win. But is this healthy? And is it healthy to feel put out when the phone dares to ring?"

After reading the article I've done a lot of thinking about my girl friends and the little effort I put into keeping it up.  I've tried to do better this week, and met up with friends, even though my kids were with me and I am never quiet myself when they are around. Mom mode strikes. But it was nice to see some of my favorite friends.  And meet some new ones.

i'll end with two pictures of me (first one 4 wks before the boys were born and second one 4 wks after). Never before seen photos! My computer crashed so all the photos from that time period are gone. but friends have since sent me a few to fill in the gaps. see why friends are so important?
