breakfast: pancakes, eggs, milk, apple. got dressed. loaded up everyone in the car.
on the way to school i shed a tear. but then i couldn't find parking so i got distracted. then found one on the bottom of the steepest hills in san francisco. loaded the boys in the stroller and brought all the kids up. now i'm sweating. it's so foggy it feels like it's raining. again distracted by the elements that i can't focus on the huge point: my baby is going to kindergarten. It's mayhem in the lunch room. Parents and kids and everyone trying to figure out where to go. the weather really screwed it up. we were suppose to meet outside. but now we are in a small lunch room. dot finds K.
(dot instantly made friends with K the previous Saturday at the open house.) while walking out of the lunchroom i hear K say to Dot, "Let's hold hands so we don't get separated." and they do just that all the way to the class room. K has a nurturing way about her. adorable.
They walk to class. my boys start getting into things. then of course my boys need use the bathroom. i wonder why i didn't take liz's offer to watch them that morning. or at least put them in diapers.
i finally make it back to her classroom to make sure dot is settled in. she's doing great. i take a few pics. i count the kids in the class. 12 kids total. 9 girls. What the school lacks in funds (none!) they gain in small class sizes. looking around the classroom, i see it's lacking a lot of what i had on my first day of kindergarden. no kitchen set, everything is old and worn out. i make plans in my head to spruce the place up. it won't take much. just a little luck and the teacher's permission. but i digress.
i wave good bye and ella says bye. that's that.
i walk back to the cafeteria for the parant's welcome breakfast. i run over to the (the boys are done) PTA president and thank her for organizing so many events over the summer so that dot would feel totally comfortable on her first day. it really made a huge difference. we went to 3 events.
we all head out and head out to pick up Liz and H. liz had offered treat us to a day at train town with the boys. it was another great distraction from spending too much time thinking about how sad i was to see dot growing up so quickly. it was such a fun day to spend with the boys. I can do two kids! I have two hands!
later liz offered to watch my boys while i picked up ella. this time I said yes! When i picked up ella from school, i sat with her in my car. we shared a peach while discussing the events of the day. she loved: K, rest time, and playing a match game. she did not like: singing only one song. we head back over to liz's house to get some real back to school photo's taken and pick up the boys. computer is running out of batteries and orb left the power cord at work. that's all i got time to finish writing. hope it make sense. and the typos are to a minimum. but most of all i hope that i answered all of lindsay's questions!

She looks super cute in her uniform. I wish that my uniforms when I was a kid were that cute...maybe I wouldn't have argued with my mom every morning about wearing them!
ReplyDeleteGreat post!! It's sad to see our kids growing up but at the same time it is so exciting!
ReplyDeleteCried through the whole thing. haha. Even though I've never met Dot. (Man, I can't believe I've never met her). We're coming before Jan. Promise. Thanks for the details.
